Planning & Design Practice Ltd is a team of Town Planning Consultants, Architects and Urban Designers. We are based in Derbyshire but operate across the country including London. We offer a comprehensive range of services, specialising in Town Planning, Architecture, Urban Design, Heritage and Conservation and can provide expert advice on a range of planning issues encompassing small scale development through to large schemes.

A chartered town planning consultant and building designer, Jonathan has developed the company; set out its core values and delivered many hundreds of projects since the company was founded in 2002. Having built an excellent team Planning Design enjoys a good reputation for the quality of its work and for the approach of its staff. Jonathan’s extensive experience of planning and the building industry gives him the expertise and clarity of vision to design and develop appropriate and exciting proposals across all sectors.
Jon is a Chartered Town Planner with a specialist interest in Historic Building Conservation and Urban Design. He joined the company in 2004 after gaining a First in Environmental Design and Conservation at Oxford Brookes University. He has since carried out further training in Urban Design at Birmingham City University, and completed the RIBA Conservation Course. He became a Director at Planning Design in 2011, and has since helped to grow the company. He has project led a wide variety of planning applications, Listed Building applications and appeals, and prepared a number of heritage assessments, context appraisals and masterplans. He also has experience of development plan preparation, including helping to deliver a Neighborhood Plan in his home town –the first to pass Inspector examination in the County. Jon is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and Associate member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.
Richard Pigott is a chartered town planning consultant. Richard joined Planning Design in 2011 after 7 years in local government, having worked as a planning officer at both Macclesfield Borough Council in Cheshire and Windsor & Maidenhead Council in Berkshire. He became a chartered town planner in 2009. He has a proven track record of project managing large and complex residential and commercial schemes and brings energy and vitality to his work. He has represented clients at local plan examinations in public and has appeared as a chief witness at three public inquires. In his spare time Richard is a keen golfer and triathlete. He also loves to travel which enables him to indulge in another favourite pastime, photography.
Lindsay is a Chartered Architect who joined the Planning & Design Practice in January 2015. She is a member of the RIBA and has completed the RIBA Advanced Conservation Course. Having previously worked in private architectural practices in Nottingham, Leek and Istanbul, Lindsay has worked on a variety of sectors, but has a specialist interest in the conservation sector and the re-use of heritage buildings.
Dominic graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2008 with an MSc in Environmental Planning, and worked for 4 years as a Planning Officer in a Cheshire authority, before leaving to work in the private sector. He eventually specialised in planning for Renewable Energy, but has also dealt with a wide variety of developments including agricultural buildings and diversification projects, barn conversions, equestrian development, housing sites, and much more. Outside of his planning career he is interested in sustainable and traditional construction methods, drystone walling, and in a previous career was a Master Glassmaker.
Fabian is a Part II Architectural Assistant who has recently joined the practice. Fabian, who studied at the Hull School of Architecture, will be bringing a wealth of knowledge in delivering projects in the housing, education and commercial sectors. In his spare time, Fabian is a keen cyclist, tennis player and footballer.
Michael joined the team in February 2015 having completed his RTPI accredited Masters Degree in Town and Regional Planning at the University of Sheffield. Having previously worked with Campaign to Protect Rural England in Sheffield, he has built up a good knowledge of the Planning issues that affect the Peak District National Park. In his spare time Michael likes to climb and mountain bike.
Rebecca graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 2014 with a First class BSc in Geography and is currently in the final stages of studying for her MSc in Urban Planning at Sheffield Hallam. Whilst studying for her MSc she worked in the private sector as a Student Planner, and gained invaluable experience in strategic planning and planning policy. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys walking her dog and travelling to new places.
Harry joined Planning Design in July 2017 as a Student Planner. He is currently studying BA in Planning and Geography at Sheffield Hallam while also undertaking his Placement year in order to gain valuable experience of applying his degree in a practical environment. In his spare time Harry is a keen footballer and cricketer, and also has an avid interest in travelling to new places.
Gosia joined the practice in October 2015 having previously graduated from University of Technology in Wroclaw, Poland, with a 1st class BA degree in Architecture and Town Planning. Possessing experience of assisting in the design of retail developments as well as small residential and commercial units, Gosia is now a Part II student at Birmingham with the ambition to become an RIBA Architect. In her spare time Gosia enjoys learning foreign languages, travelling and exploring different cultures.
Jess joined Planning Design in 2012, she has completed both an Apprenticeship and a BTEC National Diploma level 3 in Construction and the Built Environment at Derby College, and is now studying a BSc in Architectural Technology and Practice at the University of Derby. Jess is an integral member of the design team and works alongside our Architect Lindsay Cruddas. Jess really enjoys the creative nature of architectural design and brings care and attention to the projects she is involved in.
Daryl joined the practice in July 2017 as an Architectural Apprentice. He is studying BTEC National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment on day release at Derby College. Daryl has grown up within a family involvement in construction and has had the ambition of being an Architect since a young age. Daryl is interested in both traditional and contemporary aspects of building design. In Daryl’s spare time he enjoys playing golf and maintaining his car.
Diane is the Office Manager, ensuring the office runs smoothly and deals with all financial matters. She has over 30 years administrative experience with over 13 years in the property search sector.
